PLUNGĖ REGION PRESENTED AT TOURISM EXHIBITIONS

The beginning of the year for the Plungė Tourism Information Center (hereinafter – Plungė TIC) team started very productively and actively, with participation in as many as three tourism exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.

From January 10th to 14th, Plungė was presented for the second time at the international tourism and leisure exhibition "VAKANTIEBEURS 2024" (Utrecht, Netherlands). The tourism resources of the Plungė district and all of Žemaitija were presented at the joint Lithuanian stand (together with colleagues from Druskininkai, Klaipėda city and Klaipėda district, Palanga, Nida, Marijampolė). This exhibition is one of the largest and most visited in the Netherlands, with as many as 72,000 visitors attending the exhibition over 4 days. The Dutch, who have not yet discovered Lithuania, curiously inquired about Lithuanian flavors and travel possibilities, interesting tourist attractions, and the security situation in our region. And those who had already been to Lithuania did not hold back with kind words, pleasantly rejoiced in their experiences, and promised to return again.

From January 26th to 28th, the tourism and active leisure exhibition "ADVENTUR 2023" took place at the LITEXPO exhibition and congress center (Vilnius) for the eleventh time this year. Its theme was "The Art of Experience". The three-day event traditionally began with the most significant tourism awards, "The Most Successful in Tourism". We are pleased and proud that among those awarded with symbolic weather vanes are also people from Plungė. The Oginski Hotel, located in Plungė near the Babrungas waterfall two years ago, was recognized as the most successful accommodation service provider in Lithuania in 2023.

As every year, the Plungė TIC worked at the exhibition stand with a large team of assistants. Here, representatives of rural tourism homesteads, a hotel, and Lithuanian falconers presented their services and activities. The entire large Plungė team urged visitors to come to our region, told them about places to visit, educational activities, active entertainment, and distributed information publications. The lottery, whose main prize was a free overnight stay in the Plungė region, attracted the attention of the exhibition participants. This time, two winners were drawn, who will have the opportunity to stay overnight for free at the "Oginski Hotel" in Plungė and at the Sala Resort Plateliai rural tourism homestead.

The following weekend, from February 2nd to 4th, the 29th international tourism and leisure exhibition "BALTTOUR 2023" took place in Riga. At the exhibition, visitors have the opportunity to find out all the information they need when traveling around Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, to get acquainted with new routes, places to visit, accommodation, and recreation opportunities, etc. This year, the Plungė TIC team, not only with words but also with an exceptionally decorated stand, invited neighboring Latvians to come and visit the Plungė region. On the eve of the exhibition, on February 1st, the Šiauliai Tourism Information Center, together with the Lithuanian Embassy in Latvia, organized a business mission in Riga, which was attended by about 30 tourism professionals (guides, travel agency representatives, journalists writing about tourism), to whom the Plungė TIC representative presented the tourism resources and opportunities of the city and district of Plungė. Of course, we also enticed them to come to the Plungė region with Žemaitian kastinys (a traditional Lithuanian butter dish).

We hope that the productive start of the year and the spread of the message about the Plungė region will attract more tourists to our city and district.
